Pastor Joe A. Games, Sr. was born in Smackover, Arkansas on January 17, 1940. While there, he was a member of the Sweet Home Baptist Church. Upon graduating from high school, with one suitcase under his arm, he set out on the train for Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Upon arriving in Milwaukee, true to his upbringing, he united with St. Mary's
Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor J.A. Lathan. As a member of St.
Mary's, he served on the Usher Board for many years.
In 1960, he married Gloria L. Humphrey and is the proud father of two sons,
Kevin and Joe, Jr., a daughter, Pilar (the wife of Joe, Jr.) and the grandfather
to six.
In May of 1962, on Mother's Day, he announced his calling to preach the Word of
the Gospel. In 1969, along with seventeen members, he organized and became the
Pastor of Providence Baptist Church. Under his guidance, Providence stands as a
pinnacle in the community, establishing and building a spiritual base for many
souls.
As a young minister, Pastor Games saw the necessity of education and attended
the Milwaukee Institute of Technology, where he became one of its first
graduates. Additionally, he received his Certificate from the American Baptist
College Extension School, and attended and received a Certificate of Completion
from the McKinley Theological Seminary, Inc. in Jackson, Mississippi. In 1988,
after attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee part-time for several
years, Pastor Games received his Bachelor of Science degree in Community
Education. He stands as a testament to our young people that "it can be done."
His activities are not limited to the church but also include local and national
involvement. He served as a Board Member of the Milwaukee YMCA, a member of the
Trustee Board of Milwaukee Institute of Technology and one of the organizing
members of MICAH (Milwaukee Inner-City Congregation Allied for Hope).
Pastor Games has served as First Vice President of the Wisconsin General Baptist
State Convention, as President of the Wisconsin Baptist Pastor's Conference and
Wisconsin United Baptist Minister's Fellowship. He is an Instructor in the
Congress for the Wisconsin General Baptist State Convention, Inc. and Chairman
of Missions. His most recent endeavors include: appointment as President of
MICAH and his debut in June of 1994 as an Instructor for the National Baptist
Congress.
His dedication to the spiritual education of mankind has earned him various
awards for his tireless service, including the distinction of being named
Honorary Alumni of the American Baptist College, in Nashville, Tennessee, and
was voted Minister of the Year in 1990.
Pastor Games became president of the Wisconsin General Baptist State Convention
in August of 2000, an office mandated by God for the New Millennium. As
President of the Wisconsin General Baptist State Convention, he serves as a
Board Member of the National Baptist Convention, Inc.
Because of his fortitude, conviction and enthusiasm, Pastor Games has instilled
a zeal for Christian living and witnessing in the membership of the Providence
Baptist Church. He emphasizes that the matter of witnessing should be the first
concern of every Christian. Not only does he spend time telling others of a
better way, but continues to devote his time and funds to the service of his
fellowman.
His leadership and vision led to the formulation of over thirty (30) ministries
in the Providence Baptist Church, including most recently, the Providence Bus
Ministry and the Providence Child Care Center.
